The Covid-19 pandemic highlighted the difficulty of monitoring every patient in crowded hospitals. Intravenous therapy is vital for recovery, but IV bags require constant attention and timely replacement. The IoT IV Bag Monitoring and Alert System solves this problem by using a weight sensor to track fluid levels, sending real-time data through IoT, and triggering alerts when the bag runs low, ensuring efficient and reliable patient care.(Unassembled)

Description

Introduction to IoT IV Bag Monitoring

During the Covid-19 pandemic, healthcare workers struggled to monitor every patient due to the heavy workload. Intravenous therapy delivers fluids, medications, and nutrients directly into the bloodstream, helping patients recover faster, but it requires constant monitoring and timely replacement of IV bags. To solve this problem, the IoT IV Bag Monitoring and Alert System was developed. It uses a weight sensor to measure fluid levels, sends the data instantly through IoT, and triggers alerts when the level is low or the bag becomes empty. This system helps staff manage patients more efficiently while preventing missed replacements.

IoT IV Bag Monitoring

Key Features of IoT IV Bag Monitoring

The system offers automatic  bag monitoring and generates real-time IoT alerts when a bag is empty. Furthermore, it ensures online data logging and transmission for easy record-keeping. Since the design is user-friendly, healthcare workers can operate it without difficulty. In addition, it allows one person to manage multiple patients at once with reduced effort.

Specifications

The system integrates an Atmega microcontroller with a weight sensor, Wi-Fi module, and LCD display. A stable stand with a rod holds the IV bag on the sensor. Initially, the system records the empty bag weight as a reference. While the fluid drips, the sensor continuously measures the weight and sends readings to the microcontroller. Meanwhile, the controller processes this data, displays the level on the LCD, and transmits it to the IoT server. As soon as the level drops below the threshold, the LCD and online dashboard immediately show the bag is empty.

Significance of IoT IV Bag Monitoring

Because the process is automated, hospitals reduce manual workload and improve patient safety. Moreover, the system enables one person to track multiple patients efficiently, which proves highly beneficial during emergencies or heavy patient inflow. Additionally, remote monitoring through IoT ensures timely intervention.

Conclusion of IoT IV Bag Monitoring

In conclusion, this IoT Bag  and Alert System enhances healthcare efficiency and reliability. By combining sensors, microcontrollers, and IoT connectivity, it delivers accurate monitoring, instant alerts, and improved patient care, ultimately reducing errors and ensuring uninterrupted IV therapy.
